The Visual Arts Guild of Frisco has a new Board effective January 1, 2009.
The Board of Directors believes in a family friendly VAGF for a family oriented city, giving the opportunity to artists of all ages to interact with other creators of art at various levels. The Board believes in the importance of VAGF giving back to the community that supports it, and is very excited that this group of outstanding individuals will lead the organization forward.
Kathryn Petroff, President. A professional artist with her own company. She joined VAGF in January and has been a solid volunteer since then, contributing her talents and many hours of volunteer work to coordinate four collective shows this year that included artists working on site, music and theater. Kathryn introduced to our group her artists friends from surrounding cities, thus giving more exposure to the Guild and to the City of Frisco.
Melissa Rader, Secretary. An artist and a Frisco ISD art teacher at Borchardt Elementary, now completing her Ph.D. in art education at the University of North Texas. Melissa has participated with her whole school (administrators included) in the Rising Stars Project for the last 3 years and Borchardt Elementary has won the highest award two years in a row. This year's Borchardt's Rising Stars Project engaged in a conversation about 'going green.'
Kayla McKennon, Treasurer. The McKennon family has been a supporter of the Visual Arts Guild of Frisco since its inception. The late Richard McKennon, a successful young lawyer in Frisco was committed to help the organization. As our benefactor, Richard paid the rent for the first building the Guild had as a home in Historic Downtown. Kayla and her two daughters have remained in touch with the Guild and actively participated in events as the Garden Party by the downtown gazebo and the Scholarship Awards presented in the City Council chambers last year.
Best wishes to our incoming Board.
